Training Program at Duke
The Group Program
An important emphasis of the Duke Eating Disorders Program is our group parent skills program, a program designed for family members who have a fellow member with disordered eating. The program has four main goals. First, the program teaches skills to assist family members in the effective management of disturbed eating and weight concerns in their child. Second, the program teaches parents how to encourage the use of healthy coping strategies in their children. Third, the program helps parents make their own health a priority – both to serve as a positive role model for the family and to make them more effective in their roles as parents. Finally, the program guides parents in the creation of a healthy home environment to promote the emotional and physical well-being of all family members. Parents who have participated in this program have described it as their most vital resource!
This program has been funded from grants from the National Institutes of Health and the National Eating Disorders Association.
Please refer to our flyer for details about this valuable service, and refer to our Calendar to find out when groups are starting.
The Manual
“Off the C.U.F.F. (Calm, Unwavering, Firm and Funny)” is a skills manual that provides the curriculum taught to parents in these group programs. The manual is available for purchase by printing, then faxing or mailing the “Off the C.U.F.F.” Order Form.
